Manny Pacquiao Back To ABS-CBN

Manny Pacquiao Back To ABS-CBNManny Pacquiao is back in ABS-CBN. The People's Champ or "Ang Pambansang Kamao" appeared on TV Patrol last night and expressed his desire to return to the Kapamilya Network. He also said that his next boxing match with Ricky Hatton on May 5 and future fights will be aired in ABS-CBN.

In the interview in TV Patrol, Manny Pacquiao clarified that it was his decision to return to ABS-CBN.

On the other hand, GMA 7 was furious over Manny Pacquiao's statement and appearance in ABS-CBN shows. Pacquiao is still under GMA 7's contract and it is stipulated in the contract that he is not allowed to appear on any ABS-CBN shows. He has two shows under GMA: Totoy Bato and Pinoy Records.

I think it is the right move for Manny. He has to finish though his contract first with GMA. It was rumored though that ABS-CBN offered more exposure for Manny for his political ambition in 2010.

ABS-CBN's Official Statement on MMK 'Blusa' Episode

ABS-CBN's Official Statement on MMK 'Blusa' EpisodeABS-CBN has finally released a statement regarding the authenticity of the MMK "Blusa" episode. In that episode, Angel Locsin played a summa cum laude graduate of UPLB. Her character wasn't able to find a job and ended up being a stripper in a club in Manila. At the end of the story, she went crazy. With the help of ABS-CBN, she's now in a mental institution.

Here is ABS-CBN's official statement: "Storytelling in Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) is always based on narratives sent to the program by people who want to share their stories. MMK decides to go into production of the chosen stories, ONLY after the letter sender has signed a waiver attesting to the authenticity of the story sent.

MMK recognizes that a number of UPLB alumni are questioning the truthfulness of one letter sender who claims that her sister, the main character in “Blusa” essayed by Ms. Angel Locsin, was indeed a UPLB BS AgriBusiness, summa cum laude graduate, who could not find a job and ended up as a stripper.

When MMK found out about the adverse reactions, the MMK production group went back to the letter sender to inform her of the issue raised and to re-verify her account. She reiterated that she stands by her story.

Be that as it may, and after careful deliberation, MMK realizes that its writing and research pool may have been remiss in one thing----verifying with UPLB the veracity of the indicated facts of the letter sender. Having said that, MMK sincerely apologizes for the oversight.

MMK always aims for truth and excellence. This incident may have deviated from its tight norm, but rest assured that MMK will continue to serve its publics with utmost care and respect."

UPLB vs ABS-CBN's MMK

Angel Locsin MMK BlusaMy friend told me about this story and I was quite interested to write about it since I have watched the "Blusa" episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. The "Blusa" episode by the way is a story of a woman who allegedly graduated summa cum laude in University of the Philippines Los Baños. The woman who was played by Angel Locsin ended up being a dancer in a club after many attempts to find a job in Manila. She went crazy eventually after her father passed away.

When I was watching this episode of MMK, I already noticed some strange scenarios. How can a summa cum laude graduate of UPLB cannot find a job? I thought employers will be the one that will hunt for you instead. Haven't the writers of MMK noticed that?

UPLB LogoAnyway, here is the complete letter of UPLB to ABS-CBN:

"Our attention has been called by constituents and alumni to an episode featured in Maala-ala Mo Kaya entitled "Blusa," which was aired on ABS-CBN on Feb. 28 and on TFC recently. Our constituents and alumni were concerned whether the episode was based on truth.

The story was of a woman who allegedly graduated BS AgriBusiness, summa cum laude, from the University of the Philippines Los Baños or UPLB, who could not find a job, and ended up a stripper. We tried to find out who the subject was by tracking all 27 of our summa cum laude graduates from the time the University was established in 1909. We could not find anyone matching the subject as portrayed in "Blusa."

Charo Santos MMK BlusaWhether or not the subject was a UPLB graduate, we deeply sympathize with her and her family. However, in the interest of maintaining its reputation as a truthful storyteller, the MMK should have a mechanism to validate claims by letter senders especially those that require a stretch of imagination as to be believed.

While indeed touching and a perfect example of a human-interest story, "Blusa" regrettably affected the reputation of UPLB as an educational institution and its constituents and alumni. We therefore request ABS-CBN to set the record straight and correct the wrong impression that it created among its viewers. We also make an appeal to producers of similar programs to be more prudent in reporting stories with claims that would affect the reputation not only of a school but also of its alumni in the Philippines and abroad."

Charice Pempengco and Andrea Bocelli Duet

I was reading the blog of Joan Joyce today and I was surprised to read on her latest post that Charice Pemepengco had a duet with Andrea Bocelli this 20th of July at Italy. I immediately checked in YouTube if the video is already there. They sang the the popular song, "The Prayer." Oh my God! Charice is superb! I had goosebumps while listening to her. And some tidbit, Andrea Bocelli himself invited Charice to perform with him at the Third Edition of the Teatro del Silenzio in Volterra, Italy. There's indeed no stopping Charice. Watch the video below.

One more thing about Charice Pempengco. She will appear on tonight's episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya where she will play as herself on her life story.

Ces Drilon TV Interview

Videos courtesy of QTV's News On Q and Balitanghali. Senator Loren Legarda probably enjoyed the attention she's receiving because of broadcast journalist Ces Drilon's rescue. Just in time for the 2010 Presidential elections. No need for a TV commercial. No offense though. I still think that she had a big part in the release of Ces Drilon, Jimmy Encarnacion and Mindanao State University professor Octavio Dinampo.

Ces Drilon, Jimmy Encarnacion, Angelo Valderama and ABS-CBN Statement

Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo are finally all free. We cannot wait to bring them home to our families and to ABS-CBN. We are thankful that our prayers have been answered and our efforts rewarded.

We thank everyone who helped secure the release of Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo. We received a great outpouring of support from people all over the world who care for freedom. Their words of comfort and prayers guided and strengthened us throughout this ordeal.

There are people who gave us timely and valuable advice as we grappled with ways to secure the release of Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo. They wish to remain anonymous, but they know how eternally grateful we are to all of them.

Above all, the release of Ces, Jimmy, and Angelo could not have been possible without the help of Senator Loren Legarda and the cooperation of the people of Sulu and their local government namely Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji and Vice Governor Lady Ann Sahidullah. We thank them and share their hope for enduring peace in Mindanao.

For their invaluable assistance, we thank Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno; National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr.; officials of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (PACER) led by Senior Supt. Leonardo Espina and Senior Supt. Edgardo Iglesia and the PNP Intelligence Group led by Chief Supt. Rolando Anonuevo and Supt. Winnie Quidato; the Marines based in Sulu led Maj. Gen. Juancho Sabban.

It is for the people of Sulu and Mindanao and Filipinos worldwide that we at ABS-CBN continue to deliver the news.

Ces Drilon Free At Last

Ces DrilonLast night, I was checking the latest development of the Sulu Crisis on different media websites. I was happy to read that the release of ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Ces Drilon and company was on its course. Just this morning, I was happy to check on ABS-CBN news website that Ces Drilon and company were freed last night around 11 P.M. Her release was through the efforts of Senator Loren Legarda, Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji, Governor Lady Ann Sahidullah, Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno, National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr and other police and marine officials.

I’m glad our prayers were answered that the three weren’t harmed and they are healthy. I just hope the rumors I keep on hearing that Ces Drilon was raped by her captors aren’t true. According to some, most of the women captives were raped such as Arlyn Dela Cruz, Gracia Burnham and even Susan Enriquez. Is that true?

The families of Ces Drilon and Jimmy Encarnacion reunited two hours after they boarded the military chopper to Zamboanga City. Ces Drilon and Jimmy Encarnacion will return to Manila today.

Free Ces Drilon

Free Ces DrilonLast week, June 10, I was surprised to receive a YM message from a friend saying that Ces Drilon, well-known ABS-CBN journalist was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf group in Sulu. Aside from Ces Drilon, her cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion, assistant cameraman Angelo Valderama and Mindanao State University professor Octavio Dinampo were also abducted by the group. Three days after the abduction, Angelo Valderama was released after paying a certain ransom. I’m just not sure how much it is. There are 2 million and 100,000 pesos figures from different sources.

Anyway, as of yesterday the group has asked for 15 million ransom for Ces Drilon, Jimmy Encarnacion and Octavio Dinampo. The ransom was dropped to 15 million from the original 20 million. The group has given a deadline until noon today or else the three will stay in captive. The only light of this scenario was the group hasn’t suggested that they will kill the three.

Both the Philippine government and the ABS-CBN management remained firmed with their “no ransom policy.” I just hope Ces Drilon and company will be free as soon as possible. I feel for Ces Drilon. She’s a very professional journalist and she doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment. Let us all pray that this crisis will be resolved soon and the three will be freed alive.

KC Concepcion Richard Gutierrez Movie

Richard Gutierrez and KC ConcepcionPhilippines’ TV network giant stars KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez dream team up in a movie is a reality now. Richard Gutierrez signed a movie contract this week to Star Cinema to be the leading man of KC Concepcion. And just yesterday KC Concepcion signed a movie contract in GMA Films to do a Valentine movie with Richard Gutierrez. Is this the compromise agreement ABS-CBN and GMA has come up to make this movie team up possible? Well, both TV giants will definitely benefit. Let’s just wait for the two movies to come out and decide which movie outfit is better.

With this team up, will it be even possible for Richard Gutierrez or KC Concepcion to transfer to the rival network? I think so.

Heart Evangelista Moves To GMA 7

Heart EvangelistaThe last time I saw Heart Evangelista on ABS-CBN was her guest appearance on the newest game show of ABS-CBN, “The Singing Bee.” Unfortunately, she was eliminated on the first round of the game. Just this week, I was surprised to see her on GMA 7’s 24 Oras. From the news teaser, I immediately noticed that it was Heart Evangelista.

According to a GMA executive, Heart Evangelista has a new primetime show with leading man Richard Gutierrez. Aside from that she will be joining SOP and will have a Koreanovela adaption soap. No wonder she accepted GMA 7’s offer since she has so many lined up programs. I think it’s the right move for Heart Evangelista since she has no current projects with ABS-CBN.

Will GMA 7 be able to resurrect her dead career?

Moving along, aside from Heart Evangelista’s new nose, I seem to notice that her breasts are bigger now. If you have time to visit Ink For Less store, try to compare her nose and breasts. Indeed you will be amazed with her transformation. I just wonder why she needs those cosmetic enhancements when she is already beautiful.

The Singing Bee

The Singing BeeThe first episode of ABS-CBN’s The Singing Bee aired last night with Palos star Cesar Montano. The Singing Bee is a TV franchise of the US version of The Singing Bee from Gurin Company and Juma Entertainment, LLC. I just wonder why the sudden hop with a new company when ABS-CBN is known with its tie with Endemol. While I was watching the whole show, I thought it was an original concept from ABS-CBN. I just hope local channels will create their own concepts and will not rely on hit shows in the US.

Back to the show, the first set of contestants was Bayani Agbayani, Derik Ramsey, Jodi Sta. Maria, Keana Reeves, Heart Evangelista and Pooh. The first four contestants to sing the correct lyrics will move the next round where the final two contestants will battle on the final round. Actress Jodi Sta. Maria and comedian Pooh were the final two. Jodi Sta. Maria failed to sing the correct lyrics to Piolo Pascual’s Kailangan Kita while Pooh perfected Pilita Corales’ song. It was just sad that Pooh did not win the 1 Million.

In my opinion, The Singing Bee is something fresh. It was fun to watch and very enjoyable.

You can catch The Singing Bee on ABS-CBN Mondays to Fridays at 8 P.M.

Pinay Charice Pempengco Rise To Fame

Charice Pempengco and Ellen DegeneresPinay superstar Charice Pempengco once again is making a buzz after her recent guesting on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The said episode would be aired on the month of May. So, who is Charice Pempengco? What’s up with this pinay that makes talk shows want her so much?

Charice Pempengco, 15, is born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She was well known in ABS-CBN’s first Little Big Star. She was the 1st runner up in Little Big Star’s Big Division. After losing the competition, she disappeared from the scene until her famous comeback as a YouTube superstar. Her TV guesting in a Korean variety show ranked as one of the most viewed video clips in YouTube last year. Because of her instant fame in YouTube, Ellen Degeneres invited Charice Pempengco to guest in her US TV show.

After her TV guesting in Ellen, international recording contracts were offered to Charice. At that time, she was firm in sticking with Star Records, ABS-CBN’s recording company. More TV guestings from different countries followed. It looked like Charice Pempengco is on the world tour. Charice Pempengco’s singing career was on top when she recently guested on the Oprah Winfrey show. We still have to wait for its airing next month. With her recent interview in ABS-CBN, Charice was over joyed with her TV guesting and VIP treatment of Oprah Winfrey. She was even given shopping money by Oprah Winfrey herself. Isn’t that nice? How about a pinoy blogger to guest in the Oprah Winfrey show? Count me in!

I just hope Charice Pempengco and her manager would be smart in handling her career. They should maximize her fame now or else in the year’s time she would be just as normal as the others. Oh, I can’t wait to see her performance in the Oprah Winfrey Show.

ABS-CBN Summer Station ID

Summer is finally here. I am all sweaty and I can’t endure the summer heat outside. Even the biggest TV networks in the Philippines are summer themed already. The same day ABS-CBN launched their Summer Station ID, TV network rival GMA Network launched their Summer Station ID as well. Whose Station ID is better? ABS-CBN definetely!

Here are the points that made me like ABS-CBN’s Summer Station ID: 1) nice cinematography 2) music background is very catchy, has a hip and youthful sound. 3) I enjoyed watching the cheering steps and dance moves of the Kapamilya stars. 4) And lastly, it looked like they were having fun. It made me feel like summer is great even it is very hot. And oh, I like the kaleidoscope theme!

One Team, One Summer!

Silenced Witness, Surprised Lacson

Panfilo Lacson and Leo San MiguelLast night while I was watching late night news from ABS-CBN News Channel and QTV, I finally saw the latest witness of the ZTE NBN Broadband deal Senate hearing, Leo San Miguel. According to San Miguel, he was a technical consultant for ZTE. It was a big slap in the face for Senator Panfilo Lacson since his camp was building up this surprise witness even mentioning that Leo San Miguel knew about the kickback money.

To Senator Lacson’s surprise his own witness fooled him. San Miguel denied the he has direct knowledge in the alleged kickbacks in the ZTE NBN Broadbad deal. I was even fascinated with their argument regarding the email attachment. Senator Lacson felt that he is that good with techie stuffs when in reality Leo San Miguel knows better.

Is Leo San Miguel lying? I don’t know who to believe anymore.

Nationwide Transport Strike

Yes, I am a victim of this ridiculous transport strike! When I woke up this morning, I immediately tuned in to the news to check if I would be able to go to the office. At ABS-CBN and GMA 7’s morning show, they just announced that some schools have no classes and they only showed some places except for Pasig. I was having this thought of going back to sleep when I realized that I have tons of work to do in the office.

Transport Strike March 11, 2008When I got in the Loading section of our village, I was surprised with the huge volume of passengers. It was a hot morning so most of the people are not in the good, or it’s just me. Tricycle drivers are even insensitive to the passengers. They were asking us to go home and even “barkering“ for a ride to Cubao and Crossing. How silly!

Transport Strike March 11, 2008I just don’t get it why these drivers join in transport strikes when their families would only suffer. If they want to protest, why would they have to make the lives of the commuters miserable? I honestly don’t know the reason of their strike. I just hope it would be resolved ASAP.

The only good thing that happened to me this morning is the impressive way the traffic enforcer talked to the jeepney drivers asking them to give us a ride. Thank you to that traffic enforcer and Mr. Jeepney driver. I just have to worry how will I able to go home later. Good luck to me! Anyone with a car passing Life Homes, please give me a lift.

My Big Love Movie Review

If you are planning to watch the newest movie of Star Cinema, “My Big Love”, I guess you need to think again. So what makes this movie unforgettable? Let me count the ways. By the way, I’m not a fan of pinoy movies. I only watch if I was forced to watch it or it has good reviews.

scene from My Big LoveHere goes…First, I find the prosthetics of Sam Milby ridiculous. For the whole time he was fat, his look was inconsistent. His face was sometimes dark and sometimes his eyebrows were unruly. You can even notice that his fat face was obviously made of prosthetics, cracking and plastic like.

Second, the story is somewhat not original. This kind of plot is usually used on TV shows of ABS-CBN. You would rather wait for its Philippine TV premiere than to spend money in the movie house. After Sam Milby’s transformation, the story line went poor and my excitement was gone. I was expecting for a different twist but as expected the main lead stars ended up with each other. There were few comedic scenes though that I appreciated.

To be continued…

More Lozada And Abalos’ Bor’jer’

Arghh… I have missed the TV special of ABS-CBN about Jun Lozada’s expose’ to the ZTE Broadband deal which was aired last Sunday. I think I was hooked in watching Prison Break again. I have just seen the major happenings on Monday’s newscast. What so amazing in that news special was Benjamin Abalos continuous mentioning of his hamburger restaurant in Wack-Wack Country Club. He even pronounced the word “burger”, bor’jer’ many times.

At the Senate hearing yesterday, Lozada mentioned that Secretary Neri described President Arroyo as evil in one of their meetings. Neri of course denied Lozada’s statement at their press conference at the Palace. I just feel sorry for Secretary Neri. He looks very guilty and has this heavy baggage on his chest. Secretary Neri, the truth will set you free. That’s all I can say.

Back to Lozada, I am getting confused already if I have to believe with his statements. At the Senate hearing, he seems very arrogant. I have been noticing that he has this weird look in his face that I can’t decipher, a look that you can’t trust. I just hope the truth will come out. Hopefully!

Enough To ABS-CBN and GMA

Two giant networks in the Philippines (ABS-CBN 2 and GMA 7) are in the verge of killing each other’s reputation through exchange of statements on their respective networks. Enough is enough!

If you watch news or even in the regular programming of ABS-CBN and GMA for sure you won’t miss their latest press statement regarding the manipulation of TV ratings of AGB Nielsen Media Research. For both parties they are the victims. But, I think they are both guilty of news sensationalism and trial by publicity. Since it is already filed in court, let the court decide who is telling the truth and who is cheating in the TV ratings.

Instead of exchanging statements, why not focus on improving the quality of your TV programs.

Beware Of Your Inihaw

If you are familiar with the fast food chain Inihaw Express beware that it has been recently featured in ABS-CBN TV program, XXX. I was shocked to see that the food they served on that episode has worms in it. The complainant was able to film it in his cell phone camera. It was really gross.

What’s so depressing is that I have dined to Inihaw Express three times already. I have tried their Grilled Pusit and other viands, which I have forgotten already. After this incident, I will not dine in to Inihaw Express anymore even they would charge 50% less.

This Inihaw Express branch by the way is on the newly opened SM Taytay.
