A Very Special Love Movie Review

A Very Special Love movie posterI was able to watch yesterday night the latest movie of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo titled, “A Very Special Love.” It was their second tandem after their Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, which I think I have seen. The tandem and movie is refreshing and has a light feeling to it. Sarah Geronimo’s acting is somewhat natural and was never over the top. John Lloyd Cruz was definitely a pro with his acting abilities. I am just distracted with his big face on the screen.

The story is somewhat not original and there are some lines in the movie that are already used in different movies. I can’t comment on the cinematography since that movie that we have watched is not an original copy.

Supporting actors also acted natural especially Matet De Leon. I just find it bizarre that the actor that played John Lloyd’s father is speaking in English. It is really awkward to my ears or I am just used to him speaking in our native tongue.

Over all, the movie is not that bad. If you are a fan of Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz then you might appreciate this movie. I was expecting a kissing scene from them but I think Sarah Geronimo is too young for it.

Caregiver Movie Review

Sharon Cuneta CaregiverI have finally seen the movie “Caregiver” last June 2nd with my friend Ligaya. Caregiver is the 15th anniversary presentation of Star Cinema for its Filipino viewers worldwide. This movie is of course directed by Chito S. Rono and the main lead star of the movie is Mega Star Sharon Cuneta. From the trailer of the movie, I find it very intriguing and well made. It’s just sad that I missed the first five minutes of the movie since me and Ligaya enjoyed our food at Piadina.

Now for the review. Will start with the negative points of the movie first. I find the story dragging on some scenes. The editing of the movie has something to do with it. I even find the kissing scene of Sharon Cuneta and John Estrada very unreal and well orchestrated. There are many scenes in the movie that you can predict what will happen. Very pinoy movie style.

For the positive points. The main characters of the movie justified their roles especially John Estrada and Sharon Cuneta. I also find the cinematography very nice. London is such a great place to shoot a movie. How I wish I could visit London some day.

Over-all the movie is 3 out of 5. I find the movie over rated because of the points that I have stressed. The movie should have been well planned and well edited. I recommend that you just wait for it to be aired on ABS-CBN. I still think that Madrasta and Crying Ladies is still Sharon Cuneta’s best film yet.

I’ve Been CARRIEd Away Part II

Sex and the City movie posterThe movie crowd last night was really impressive. They were somewhat disciplined except for the guy on my back that keeps on talking as if he is in the cast of “Sex and the City” movie. I really enjoyed the movie especially seeing all of them in happy endings.

Sex and the City cast in fashion weekSarah Jessica Parker is witty and still in the Carrie persona that I know. She’s great in the movie especially the scene when he confronted Big on their wedding day. Kristin Davis was hilarious without even trying. I felt her real friendship with the Carrie character. My favorite scene of her was the confrontation scene with Big and her diarrhea episode. Hahaha that was really funny!

Kim Catrall was a bit disappointing since she was a bit tamed in the movie. You could include the fact that the MTRCB have stripped her intimate scenes with her celebrity boyfriend. I just have to watch the uncensored version of Sex and the City on DVD. My favorite scene of her by the way was the Valentine’s Day scene with the sushi. Cynthia Nixon’s character is still my least favorite character of the movie and the TV series. Her acting anyway is still superb and very real. Since I’m not a fan of her character what would be my favorite scene of her in the movie? Hmmm… The scene in Mexico where Samantha saw her thick pubes while wearing a bathing suit.

Sex and the City in Carrie's wedding dayJennifer Hudson’s performance was already great. She seemed very fitted for the movie. The Asian daughter of Charlotte is also adorable even she has small lines and exposure. The leading men of the ladies were also great. Is this me or I just love the movie a lot? What made this movie great is the fact that the people behind the hit TV series were also the same people in this film. Same director, producers and writers. As if you are watching the TV series in the big screen. I think I am being biased since I have watched the TV series or the movie is just great. The script is well written. I was laughing hard on many scenes and the lines for the voice over of Carrie Bradshaw were honest and real. And New York looked so nice and glamorous. How I wish I could visit New York in the distant future. I’d love to live there.

I definitely recommend that you watch this movie especially if you have seen the TV series and get CARRIEd away. If you have the movie, leave a comment here and answer this question, “Do you love to color?” Hehe…

Sex and the City premieres today worldwide.

I’ve Been CARRIEd Away Part I

Sex and the City complimentary ticketLast night, I got to watch the movie, “Sex and the City” at Cinema 6 of Glorietta 4 courtesy of 2nd Avenue Channel. My friend got four complimentary tickets from 2nd Avenue. I left the office around 6 P.M. and arrived Glorietta almost 7 P.M. My friend arrived quarter to 8 P.M. just in time for the 8 P.M. movie. I bought my dinner to go at Burger King and went to the long line reaching Starbucks Coffee. Before that I was seated on the bench at Wendy’s. There’s this TV with the “Sex and the City” trailer that keeps on playing over and over again. I almost memorized their lines. Damn!

At exactly 8 P.M., we were allowed to enter the cinema. You can really tell that the people in line are avid fans of “Sex and the City” TV series, including me. I have watched the series from the beginning to its ending at Paris.

The movie started around 8:30 P.M. We were seated on the left side of the cinema while the others are cramming where to seat. When the movie started playing its usual opening billboard, I was smiling and the crowd started clapping. On the beginning of the movie, the main characters lives were summarized based on the TV series. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) was still happy with BIG after many failed relationships. Samantha (Kim Catrall) recovered from her cancer and still managing the career of his celebrity boyfriend. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is happily married with an adopted Asian girl. And Lastly Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is still with his husband and son in Brooklyn.

When Timawa Meets Delgado Movie Review

I learned about “When Timawa Meets Delgado” when I saw its movie poster on my landlady’s door. Apparently, she is the Production Manager of this movie. When we got to talk, she told me that it was shown in Iloilo last January and is currently showing in Robinson’s Mall here in Manila. She eventually invited me to watch it. Just this week, she came knocking on my door and gave me a DVD copy of their movie, “When Timawa Meets Delgado.” I only got to watch it last Thursday.

The movie is an independent film that tackles about students taking up Nursing. The film showed that majority of nursing students were forced by their parents and peers. They were even attracted by the large remuneration by working abroad. The film also showed that some nursing students are second courses meaning they shifted to Nursing from a different course.

The film evolved with two main characters, Timawa and Delgado. Both artists but suddenly wanted to study Nursing because they failed in chosen fields. Timawa is a poet even won acclaim for his poem, “The Pig”, while Delgado is a videographer for events like birthdays and burials.

The movie was actually boring. It ran for about one and a half hours but it seemed forever. The only saving grace for the film is the wonderfully written poems narrated by who knows who. I even find the movie incomplete. If only the movie tacked about the life of a nursing student and nurses, it could have been interesting to watch.

My Big Love Movie Review

If you are planning to watch the newest movie of Star Cinema, “My Big Love”, I guess you need to think again. So what makes this movie unforgettable? Let me count the ways. By the way, I’m not a fan of pinoy movies. I only watch if I was forced to watch it or it has good reviews.

scene from My Big LoveHere goes…First, I find the prosthetics of Sam Milby ridiculous. For the whole time he was fat, his look was inconsistent. His face was sometimes dark and sometimes his eyebrows were unruly. You can even notice that his fat face was obviously made of prosthetics, cracking and plastic like.

Second, the story is somewhat not original. This kind of plot is usually used on TV shows of ABS-CBN. You would rather wait for its Philippine TV premiere than to spend money in the movie house. After Sam Milby’s transformation, the story line went poor and my excitement was gone. I was expecting for a different twist but as expected the main lead stars ended up with each other. There were few comedic scenes though that I appreciated.

To be continued…

Another Movie Marathon

National TreasureThis week I started doing movie marathons again. Just yesterday I finished watching four movies. I started with National Treasure and ended with Inang Yaya. National Treasure started boring but as the movie progressed it turned out great. The first installment of the movie is better than this second part. With the ending of the story, I think there would be a third part. More treasure to find!

Georgia RuleThe next movie that I watched was Superbad or should I call the movie Super Boring. The movie was dull and with no sense at all. Would you believe that I still finished it hoping that there is a fun part in movie? Next…

The third movie that I watched was Georgia Rule starred by Lindsay Lohan, Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda. Compared to the first two films that I watched, this movie performed better. It deals with the relationship of mothers and daughters. After watching the movie, it made me feel sorry for Lindsay Lohan. She’s a great actor yet she destroyed her life with vices and partying.

Inang YayaAnyway, the last movie that I watched was Inang Yaya (Mommy Nanny), the only pinoy movie from the bunch. Maricel Soriano starred it. With all the buzz and awards this movie received, I think they really deserved it. The movie was realistic and full of soul. You have to watch this movie. It’s really great!

Transamerica And Kubrador

Transamerica movie poster Felicity HuffmanFriday night, I finally watched the high acclaimed movie of Felicity Huffman, Transamerica. I think she was nominated in her performance in this movie. Anyway, the movie was about a transsexual man on his final stage of transformation. Felicity Huffman looked a bit pale and weird looking. She even changed her voice but has a bit trace of her original voice. The movie was not the usual movie we watch in movie houses. It deals with the sensitive issue, sex change and the difficult life they have.

Kubrador movie poster Gina ParenoJust before I had my dinner, I watched the movie, “Kubrador” (The Bet Collector) starred by Gina Pareno. Gina Pareno won many international awards from this movie. The movie is about the life of a “Kubrador” or a collector of an illegal gambling, “Jueteng.” Would you believe that a “kubrador” gets 15% of her daily collections? It’s just sad to know that people have to engage in illegal gambling just to get by their daily lives. If only our government could give them jobs or livelihood projects they would somehow leave this kind work.

Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo Movie Review

88 pesos sewing kitLast Sunday, we went to see the movie “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” at the Alabang Town Center. Before watching it, I got to buy my cologne at Bench and I also bought a sewing kit in an Everything 88 store, Daiso is the name of the store, I think. We also bought popcorn, nachos and a biggie iced tea for our snack inside the movie house.

Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo movie posterThe movie was really hilarious. I enjoyed most the performance of Gina Pareno where I laughed hard on every scene she’s in. And who would forget the ever-cute “Bronson” in the movie. For sure he has a future in the call center industry when he grows up. Hahaha!

Honestly, there were no dull moments in the movie. And of course, you would learn lessons from the movie. Would there be a third installment in this movie? I think so since it’s a blockbuster. As of the latest ranking, “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” is now number one based on ticket sales.

I Need A Flat Iron

Sunday
I woke up today before 9 A.M. I got my dried clothes on our backyard then went to fold them. I planned to iron my clothes right after I’m done with my breakfast and with the folding of the clothes. I had slice bread with cheese spread and a glass of milk.

Right after my housemate left for work, I went downstairs to get the flat iron. I was surprised to see that my housemate ruined it. It has a large burnt plastic stain all over it. If I would use it, my clothes would have a plastic stain on it. I just plan to buy a new flat iron for myself tomorrow and would do my ironing tomorrow or Tuesday night.

Instead of ironing my clothes, I just watched TV and did some writing for my blog. I tried defragging my laptop and also tried burning “The Firm” video in a DVD disk. After I went to have my lunch, the defragging and burning did not finish. I even got to sleep while waiting for them to finish.

I got up around 2 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. The DVD I’m burning didn’t turned out okay even I tried it twice. Instead of continuing with the defragging, I stopped it and just watched “The Firm” on my laptop. I just inserted my Walkman headset since my laptop doesn’t have loud speakers.

“The Firm” is one of my favorite John Grisham books. I am just disappointed that I did not get the same intensity and excitement that I got from reading the book.

Argh… It’s Monday again tomorrow. I need to go to work again. Sigh!

Enchanted Movie Review

Enchanted movie posterLunchtime, we visited Shangri-La Mall to have our lunch and to watch the movie, “Enchanted.” I availed the BPI-Tokyo Tokyo promo where you could get a free Beef Misono meal when you purchase a minimum of 500 pesos in your BPI credit card. You just need to buy a 16 oz. Red tea to avail this promo.

After our lunch, we went straight to the cinema kiosk to check the schedule of Enchanted. There was a 3:20 P.M. schedule in the Premiere cinema and a 3:50 P.M. schedule on Cinema 1. Naturally we took the Cinema 1 schedule coz it is 20 pesos cheaper than the Premiere cinema (170 pesos).

To cut our time in waiting, we went to Rustan’s supermarket where I bought noodles, crackers, Downy fabric conditioner, lotion, sandwich plastic bag, Scotch Brite, dishwashing liquid refill, salted egg, bottle spray and Milo. We arrived at the cinema with the movie already starting. The cinema was fully booked with mostly children and young adults.

The movie was extremely enjoyable to watch. It was funny and full of positive approach in life. It’s fun to see a different role for Grey’s Anatomy’s Mc Dreamy, Patrick Dempsey. I was impressed with the performance of the lead actress, Amy Adams. Can she really sing that well in real life? Anyway, she’s beautiful and beaming with happiness and optimism.

What I like about the movie is the song and dance performances. Would you believe that after watching the movie, I feel like singing and dancing on my way out of the cinema? Hahaha! I need to get that song especially the one Carrie Underwood sang which was played after the movie. Anyone knows the title of that song?

One More Chance Movie Review Part II

star cinema's one more chance bea alonzo john lloyd cruzWe went to the new cinema at the Midtown wing then bought three tickets for 122 pesos each. The cinema was jam-packed with moviegoers. We seated at the first row seats of the cinema since we have no choice. Our heads were just tilted while watching the movie.

Honestly, I find the movie trailer of “One More Chance” intriguing. I did not expect that I would like this movie. The movie was actually impressive. I was surprised with the new Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz. They were actually more mature with their roles with matching sexy scenes.

I was really impressed with the story line, a new one for a Filipino movie. The dialogues were heart felt. You would certainly feel the emotions of the lead characters. It’s just funny that while watching the movie our girl nurse friend was crying on every drama scenes of Bea and John Lloyd. I was making fun of her after the movie even asking her if she left a bit for herself.

Anyway, I find the ending of the movie a bit off. After the increasing emotions of the story, it would just end as simple as that. I was expecting a much dramatic ending. You should watch it to know the ending. The movie was worth to watch even I arrived late home last night feeling groggy and tired.

Stardust Movie Review

Stardust movieYesterday after work, I watched the movie Stardust in MegaMall Cinema 1. After lunch, my friend during College invited me to watch Stardust after work. Not only he bought my dinner but he also paid for my movie ticket.

We met at Powerbooks then went straight to Sbarro. We had a slice of pizza each and we shared a plate of baked ziti. The movie started 7:05 P.M., so we were in a hurry while eating. Inside the cinema, you would notice the huge turnout of moviegoers.

The movie in general is a fun movie to watch. I wasn’t disappointed with the special effects or the actor’s performance. Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro did great in the movie. I like most the comedic performance of Robert De Niro. I did not expect him to play a role like that.

The movie narrates a simple story yet it feels like I’m back on being a kid enchanted with happily ever after stories. There’s something lacking though in the movie. It would be nice to show what happened in the end instead of narrating it.

Nice movie indeed especially when it its free!

Ratatouille

RatatouilleThursday after work, I left early to watch Ratatouille at Greenbelt 3. Afternoon that day, a friend of mine gave me two Ayala cinema tickets worth 100 pesos each. The tickets though are only valid until Friday so I invited my friend to watch the movie.

We had our dinner first at Food Choices then went to SM Department Store and checked the prices of pillows and foam mattresses. Went straight to Greenbelt afterwards. We dropped by the chapel first and were amazed by the geese right beside the chapel. They are so cute and lovely even they are just resting on the grass.

Greenbelt geese Greenbelt geese Greenbelt geese
We went to the cinema booth then bought tickets. We just added 120 pesos since the movie cost 160 pesos. We bought popcorn and entered the cinema with just few people in it. And take note, I did not find any children in the cinema.

The movie in general is entertaining and fun to watch. There are scenes though that are yucky for me. They are still rats that grosses me out.

The movie definitely touched me. It’s a good story that everyone should see.

Harry Potter, Finally!

Harry PotterAfter our short visit at Alabang Town Center, we went to Festival Mall to watch Harry Potter 5 and to check again for laptops. When we arrived Festival Mall, we checked the movie schedule and gladly saw Harry Potter on the board schedules. We only had 20 minutes to buy tickets and to buy food for our lunch.

I ordered for a seafood rice in a box meal and waited for about ten minutes. I was very anxious that we would arrive the cinema with the movie already starting. We arrived the cinema as expected already starting. I was eating the rice in a box, actually in a Styrofoam while watching the movie. The meal is bland with just a little trace of seafood. The ice tea helped a lot in filling my stomach. Back to the movie, the first part of it was a blur to me.

Anyway, the movie was great and was full of magic and action. The villain are irritating to watch and I can't do anything about it. Grrr... The main characters are all grown up now and it’s fun to see flashbacks of them as kids. Can’t wait to see the next two installments of this movie franchise.

Transformers

Transformers MovieI was in Alabang Town Center late afternoon and watched Transformers. I was overwhelmed with the large viewer turnout and the long line of people to the cinemas. We got the 4:55 P.M. schedule coz there are earlier times that are already sold out. Four cinemas of Alabang Town Center are showing Transformers and one cinema is showing Fantastic 4.

After buying tickets, we strolled first the mall. Dropped by PowerBooks then went back to the line of the cinema. We have bought popcorn and hotdog sandwiches for our snacks.

The movie is really impressive. I actually can’t remember the whereabouts of Transformers cartoons way back grade school. What I can remember is that I have seen it before. Anyway, the movie is really great. You won’t get lost of the story while watching it. The effects are superb! The robots seem so real and alive. Its way way impressive from the movies I’ve seen this year. The robots are even funny and humorous, can you imagine that.

I’m looking for Part 2 of Transformers!
