Manny Pacquiao Back To ABS-CBN

Manny Pacquiao is back in ABS-CBN. The People's Champ or "Ang Pambansang Kamao" appeared on TV Patrol last night and expressed his desire to return to the Kapamilya Network. He also said that his next boxing match with Ricky Hatton on May 5 and future fights will be aired in ABS-CBN.

In the interview in TV Patrol, Manny Pacquiao clarified that it was his decision to return to ABS-CBN. He even said, "Pagkatapos kong pagisipang mabuti, nilapitan ko ang ABS-CBN at nagpagpasyahan ko pong makipag partner muli sa kanila. Sarili ko itong desisyon. Sa ABS-CBN mapapanood n’yo ang laban ko kay Ricky Hatton at iba ko pang laban."

On the other hand, GMA 7 was furious over Manny Pacquiao's statement and appearance in ABS-CBN shows. Pacquiao is still under GMA 7's contract and it is stipulated in the contract that he is not allowed to appear on any ABS-CBN shows. He has two shows under GMA: Totoy Bato and Pinoy Records.

I think it is the right move for Manny. He has to finish though his contract first with GMA. It was rumored though that ABS-CBN offered more exposure for Manny for his political ambition in 2010.

The three day Formula One event here in Singapore started last Friday and was making a lot of buzz.  There were even comments that the tickets to watch the Formula One race is too much.  Well, if you are a fan of this race then for sure spending thousand Singapore dollars is worth spending.

2008 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix

For the first time, the FORMULA 1 Grand Prix will happen here in Singapore. The event which is called “2008 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix” will open this 26th of September 2008 with 11 teams namely Ferrari, McLaren, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Renault, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Williams, Honda, Force India and Super Aguri. The race will be held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit from September 26 to 28, 2008.

If you want to watch the race, tickets are still available for the Esplanade Premiere track. Please check the official website of the 2008 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix for more details.

As I have said earlier, the FORMULA 1 race is a three day event with parties and entertainment after the race. Make sure to watch this race if you are a FORMULA 1 fanatic.

Singapore First Olympic Medal

While I was cooking “Nilagang Baka” last night, I was also watching the finals of the Women’s Table Tennis in the Beijing Olympics 2008. The finals were between China and Singapore. The defending champion was China and Team Singapore was hoping to win their first Olympic Gold medal.

Team China (Zhang Yining, Guo Yue and Wang Nan) won an impressive 3-0 win over Team Singapore (Li Jiawei, Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu). Team Singapore made history last Friday after beating South Korea which assured them of winning a Silver medal, Singapore’s first Olympic medal.

It was an intense game since two countries desire for the Gold medal. I am by the way cheering for Team Singapore. I am just a bit disappointed that they did not win the Gold. They seemed a bit weak for Team China. Team Singapore has the skills but they don’t have the right mentality to win. The only way to beat China is to use China’s weakness. China has a great defense and power but Singapore lacked keenness.

These three girls have a bright future in Table Tennis. Let’s just watch them in the next Olympics.

Rafael Nadal One Step To No. 1

Rafael Nadal is now one step close on being the world’s number one tennis player after he won over Nicolas Kiefer in the Toronto Masters last Sunday. Roger Federer is the current number one tennis player with just 770 points lead with Rafael Nadal. Rafael Nadal’s win to Kiefer was his fifth win in a row making his margin trimmed to just 300 points.

To stay on number one, Roger Federer needs to enter the semi-finals. Here are some of the words of Rafael Nadal, “Every player wants to be No. 1. I would love to be No. 1 but I’m very happy to be No. 2 because in front of me there is an amazing player like Roger.” I think every player should be as humble as Rafael Nadal. With great sports talent and humility, Rafael Nadal is indeed near on top.

Tiger Woods First Billionaire Athlete

Tiger Woods, 32, 14-time major winner in golf, is on his track to surpass the US$1 billion earnings by 2010. This is according to Forbes magazine. Tiger Woods would be the first athlete to earn his first billion by just playing sports. Just last year, he earned US$115 million, which annually saves his spot on the world’s richest people under Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list. Still second on the list is English football player David Beckham with an earning of US$65 million last year.

Rafael Nadal To Take Over Roger Federer

Rafael Nadal is the new Wimbledon champion. He defeated world’s number one tennis player Roger Federer last Sunday. It is the first time Rafael Nadal won the Wimbledon title after winning four consecutive French Open titles. The match between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer lasted almost five hours dethroning five-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer.

Last Monday, the official computer ranking was released. Roger Federer was still on top with 6,600 points while Rafael Nadal was on the second spot with 6,055 points. With just a small margin of 545 points, Rafael Nadal can easily claim the world’s number one title. Even Rafael Nadal is the second world’s best player, at this moment he is the world’s best tennis player after beating the world’s number one tennis player.

The motivation now for Rafael Nadal is to surpass Pete Sampras’ 14 Grand Slam titles. Rafael Nadal with just 12 Grand Slam titles will have a hard time catching up since he has knee problems troubling him.

Manny Pacquiao Wins versus David Diaz

We were on our way to Malaysia when I received a text message from a friend in the Philippines saying that People's champ Manny Pacquiao won versus David Diaz on the 9th round. I was thrilled with the news and told it immediately with the friends I'm with. Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao! You made us all proud again.

David "Dangerous" Diaz vs Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao Fight Videos and Results

The fight between David Diaz and Manny Pacquiao titled “Lethal Combination” on June 28 is getting closer. I have read a column that says that Manny Pacquiao seems to be over confident in this fight. This has been due to cutting down his training regimen by delaying his trip to the US and attending first his local commitments. If this attitude of Manny Pacquiao continues I think this will soon end his legendary career as a boxer. The number one pound-by-pound boxer according to FightFan.com should be humble and never underestimate his opponent. Too bad, the humble Manny Pacquiao was a sight of yesterday.

Anyway, who is David Diaz in the first place? David “Dangerous” Diaz, 32, was born in Chicago raised by his Mexican parents. His father and brother was also a boxer. He started boxing at the age of eight. His professional boxing debut was on 1996 after he participated in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Some of his famous opponents were Marcos Rodriguez, Kendall Holt, Jose Armando Santa Cruz, Erik Morales and Ramon Montano.

When asked about his fight with Manny Pacquiao, this is what he said, “is the biggest fight of my life. Bigger than when I won the title. Even bigger than beating a legend like Morales."

Manny Pacquiao should be careful since David Diaz is just like him. They play the aggressor and come forward to pressure and wear down their opponents. Aside from that he has stamina that can last the last round.

I have read a post from Joan Joyce about the latest win of people’s champ Manny Pacquiao. According to FightFan.com, “With Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s announced retirement, FightFan.com has elevated former no. 2 ranked Manny Pacquiao to the number one pound-for-pound fighter in all of boxing.” Isn’t that great? Manny Pacquiao’s hardwork brought him success and lots of money. I hope he could give me a million. Hahaha.

Invasion Philippines vs The World

Last Sunday, the battle of Filipino boxers versus the world began called “Invasion Philippines vs The World.” The boxing fight was held at Araneta Coliseum and was aired over ABS-CBN. Four Filipino boxers including Penalosa fought over the best of the world’s boxers.

Here are the boxing fights of Invasion Philippines vs The World:

Gerry Penalosa (52-6, 35 KO’s) vs Ratanachai Sor Vorapin (71-9, 47 KO’s): Penalosa won via KO on 8th round.
Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista (23-1, 17 KO's) vs Genaro Camargo (16-3, 10 KO’s): Boom Boom won via KO on the 2nd round.

PACQUIAO MARQUEZ REMATCH
Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao met on the Invasion Philippines vs The World the Araneta Coliseum. The defeated Juan Manuel Marquez still cannot accept his loss against Manny Pacquiao on their last fight at Las Vegas last March 2008. Marquez face to face with Pacquiao asked for a rematch. Olympic Torch Relay Protests

Yesterday afternoon, I saw on CNN that the seventh stop for the Olympic torch relay was held in London. As the torch relay progressed, protestors suddenly appeared and tried many times to disrupt the occasion. Protestors were successful in turning the torch fire off by using a fire extinguisher and grabbing the Olympic torch. Torch relay organizers opted to place the Olympic torch in a bus to guard it from protestors. Protestors are by the way from Tibet and were protesting against China’s crackdown against them.

The Olympic torch lighting marks the countdown of the opening of Olympics. According to Wikipedia, “The Olympic Torch is based on traditional scrolls and uses a traditional Chinese design known as "Lucky Cloud". The torch is designed to remain lit in 65 kilometer-an-hour winds, and in rain of up to 50 millimeters-an-hour. It is designed by a team from Lenovo Group. The Torch is designed in reference to the traditional Chinese concept of the 5 elements that make up the entire universe.” The relay will cover 85,000 miles over 23 cities in 34 days until they reach Mainland China. 2008 Summer Olympics will open on August 8, 2008 in Beijing, China.

Pacquiao Marquez Rematch

Manny Pacquiao’s latest win is the talk of the town. Filipinos are rejoicing and are very proud of Pacquiao’s latest achievement. Marquez’ camp and some observers expressed their disappointment over the split decision of the judges. I’m not a boxing expert but I think Pacquaio deserved his victory. I know that Marquez ended strong in the 12th round but that’s not the basis of boxing. It is based on the cumulative points from round one to the last round with the exception of a knock out.

From the sports news last night, I assume there would be a final rematch for Pacquiao and Marquez given that they have scored one each on their bouts. If Marquez should have won the competition, does this mean that the promoters and judges let Pacquiao win so there could be a rematch? That means more money for all them. Just my thoughts.

Pacquiao Marquez II: Unfinished Business

Pacquiao Marquez II: Unfinished Business, the battle of two champions was aired here in Manila around 2 P.M. in GMA Channel 7. While I was having my lunch at the eatery, it was announced on ABS-CBN News Update that Manny Pacquaio won over Juan Manuel Marquez in a split decision of the judges. Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez finished the twelve rounds.

The first two rounds, Marquez dominated the ring. It was noticeable that Pacquaio had some problems with his balance and he looked disoriented. On the third round, Pacquiao gained his composure and made Marquez fall. On the seventh round, both Pacquiao and Marquez are bleeding caused from their unintentional head butts. Marquez dominated the eighth round because Pacquiao can’t see from his right eye caused from the blood flowing from his wound. On the tenth round, Pacquaio blazed throwing heavy punches on Marquez’s head.

Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao! You made us proud again.

I’m An Ice Prince

Finally after being disappointed that we weren’t able to ice skate last week, we were able to be an in ice princes and ice princesses yesterday night after work. We arrived at the ice skating rink before 7 P.M. and have decided to just have dinner after our rendezvous with the ice.

The ticket inside cost 180 pesos for 40 minutes and we were a bit sad that there’s no discount even we have SM Advantage card. I was aware that they offer discount for that. Anyway, my friend Rosell was great with bartering with the counter lady and we got one ticket for free. Isn’t that great? So literally, we got 1 free for 4 people. It was also inclusive of shoe rental and locker.

After we got our ice skating shoes and fitted it, we immediately went to the ice skating rink kinda scared. The last time I skated was during my High School days. I’m just a bit confident that I will do well since I skated before and I also did roller blades when I was a kid. The experience was great. It felt like I was a kid again. Even I fall, on my hands twice and my feet feel sore, it was still a dun experience. Skating is really about believing in yourself. If you don’t trust yourself that you can’t make it for sure you will be stock in the railings of the rink. You have to risk falling to learn and to enjoy.

Second Bowling Hi-Score

Last Friday, our supposed ice-skating did not happen. When we were about to check out the price, the counter was already closed. When we asked the guard, they are only open until 8 P.M. Isn’t that frustrating? I was even wearing my Adidas blue jacket to prepare me from cold when I won’t even feel a cold breeze.

My officemates and I just had an arrangement to be early next week. Hopefully, we could ice skate. Anyway, we went bowling again to kill our time. This time, I rented a size 7 ½ shoe. The last time I wore a size 7 and it was a bit tight. The usual, I was with my three bowler friends. Naks! I’m now addressing them as bowlers. Hehe…

Anyway, I’m just glad the four of us improved our games. I even beat my former score of 97 to 102, and I was first again. Would you believe that? I think I need to research for bowling tips to improve my game. I really envy those players who most of the time has a strike.

Two Strikes

Last Friday after work, my officemates and I met our former officemate who was celebrating her birthday last Saturday. We had our dinner at Tokyo Tokyo then went to bowling. Happy Birthday Sel! Thanks again for the dinner.

It has been a long time since I went bowling. I was really excited and hoping that I can still bowl. I’m not that good with bowling just so you know. I just hoped I would hit at least one pin. At the bowling area of SM MegaMall, we went to the counter then asked for our shoe sizes. Of course, I did not know my shoe size. My guy attendant just gave me a size 7. It’s the right fit, just for bowling. Did you know that it only cost 60 pesos to bowl including the shoe rent if you are a SM Advantage cardholder? Just for one game though.

Anyway, we rented one lane for us four people. I’m glad we were a bit separated from other bowlers since I’m shy not to hit any pins. I picked a color purple bowling ball with a weight of 9. I just don’t know if it’s kilo or pounds. I was third to play among my friends. On my first try, I was kind of shy. I don’t know what to do but as the game progressed, I enjoyed playing and was having a great time with my friends. Would you believe that I had two strikes and I was first with a score of 97?

Since the four of us had a great time, we plan to ice skate next Friday and would hopefully play bowling every Friday. Isn’t that nice? We even plan to buy bowling shoes. Anyone knows where I can get one? And how much does it cost?
