Broadway Night For American Idol Top 6

American Idol top 6 Andrew Lloyd Webber weekWhen I saw on the website of American Idol that the top 6 finalists would do Andrew Lloyd Webber songs, I got excited since I love musical and Broadway. After the Mariah Carey week, this Broadway week definitely was alarming for the American Idol finalists. How would they be able to sing Broadway without sounding mediocre?

Syesha Mercado started the show with a powerful performance. It’s definitely her genre and it showed her different personality. She’s still not my bet. Not an American Idol material still. Other finalists that aced last night were David Archuleta, Carly Smithson and David Cook. I’m still not sure about David Cook but I will just rely on the judges’ opinion. I somewhat felt his performance was boring.

Anyway, the biggest shock of the night was Brooke White’s forgetting the lyrics. Not only she went back to the start of the song but she also butchered the song, “You Must Love Me” in Evita. Will America give her another chance or had enough of her. Speaking of enough, Jason Castro’s performance wasn’t that bad at all. But it doesn’t mean that he is an American Idol material. With that my bottom three are Brooke White, Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado.

Here are the song choices of the Top 7 American Idol finalists:

David Archuleta - "Think Of Me" - from 'Phantom of the Opera'
David Cook - "Music Of The Night" - from 'Phantom of the Opera'
Jason Castro - "Memory" - from 'Cats'
Brooke White - "You Must Love Me" - from 'Evita'
Carly Smithson - "Superstar" - from 'Jesus Christ Superstar'
Syesha Mercado - "One Rock n' Roll Too Many" - from 'Starlight Express'

If you like this post, buy me a cup of coffee.

David C.'s performance reminded me of Carrie Underwood's performance of "Hello, Young Lovers" when they had their R&H week. I was quite scared on how the song would go, keeping her country twang in mind.

But wow, was I surprised! It was an excellent performance. He was versatile enough to adjust to the song's romantic nature... away from his rock star performances. For that, he gets my vote. :)

David A's performance is what we expect it to be: magical. As A.L.W. has said, he never thought of having a guy sing that song which was intended to be sung by a girl. Well, he shouldn't be alarmed or surprised as David A. have sung "diva" songs before and amazingly, he seems comfortable singing them.
