How To Connect The Internet Using Your Mobile Phone

I called again SMART Customer Service to make a follow-up on my GPRS settings request. The usual I was on queue for quite some time. When I was answered by the Customer Service Representative, I told her about my request last night and she accommodated me nicely. She replied that I would receive the settings within five minutes compared to the 24 hours assurance of the CSR last night.

She also gave an alternative option if I still can’t receive the settings within five minutes. She told me to send the message “MMS ON” to 3401. After that I would compose a new message with the text, “SET GPRS w800i” and send to 211.

After five minutes, there are still no settings so I just sent it manually. Within seconds, my settings arrived. After that, I switched my laptop on and I connected my cell phone to the laptop thru Bluetooth. Anyway, here are the steps to connect to the internet using your mobile phone.

CONNECT TO THE INTERNET USING YOUR MOBILE PHONE
1. Make sure your mobile phone has GPRS and you have properly installed the GPRS settings. Contact your service provider (Globe, SMART) for the settings.
2. Download PC Suite (Sony Ericsson, Nokia) software.
3. At the PC Suite application, select the Mobile Networking Wizard. If your mobile phone is properly connected to your laptop, you would see the network bar with a signal.
4. If you can see a signal, you may now click the Connect button. After which, you may open your web browser (Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer) and start browsing.
5. After using the internet, go back to the Mobile Networking Wizard and click the Disconnect button.

SMART Communications by the way charges 10 pesos per 30 minutes compared to the 15 centavos per KB charging of Globe Telecom.
