Anyway, the other day I asked a dear friend of mine to research for me about Tuberculosis. He collated all the information I need to know about Tuberculosis. I only had the time to read it last night. I was surprised with it and I am somewhat relieved to know that I shouldn’t worry at all.
Here are the information about Tuberculosis that you should know. There are two types of Tuberculosis: Latent Tuberculosis and Active Tuberculosis. Latent Tuberculosis is the type of Tuberculosis with no symptoms and the TB bacteria cannot be spread to others. Active Tuberculosis has symptoms such as bad cough that would last to 3 weeks or longer, pain in the chest, coughing blood or sputum (phlegm), weakness or fatigue, weight loss, no appetite, chills, fever and sweating at night. Active Tuberculosis is the contagious one since you can get infected by the person’s cough or even by laughing. Strange huh! Basically, the Latent type of TB is safe and can be cured by taking izoniazid (INH) for about 6 to 9 months of religious medication.
So what causes Tuberculosis? It is caused by slow-growing bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis that thrives in the area of the body that is rich in oxygen and blood such as the lungs. You can actually get it when a person with Active Tuberculosis coughs or sneezes. Once you have inhaled the air with the TB bacteria, the bacteria immediately settle to parts of our body then they begin to grow. What can we do to protect ourselves is to have a healthy lifestyle. A person with a strong immune system will help stop in the developing of the TB bacteria. And oh, you can also have a TB vaccine.
